Analysis of Class - Midterm

1) After studying media for eight weeks in this class, what have you learned? Please be specific.

In the past eight weeks in Electronic Media Writing I have learned so much. One major thing I have learned is that media exists EVERYWHERE. My Media Meditations have made me realize this. Another thing I have learned and realized is how WEB 2.0 and technology in general is becoming the KEY to everything. Technology is what gives people in our society answers, instead of the old fashion way of picking up a book and learning we log onto Google. Lastly one other big thing I have learned is many different persuasive techniques. I always knew persuasion was used in media, but I never really knew how significant it was in most media. Persuasive techniques play a huge role in society these days.

2) What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself as 1. A critical reader; 2. A writer, and 3. A critical thinker in this class so far?

1. Critical Reader: When it comes to being a critical reader the observations that we have to draw from our textbook and put on the class blog every Sunday create me to really think and realize what I didn’t know before.

2. Writer: To be a writer I have learned that there are many different forms of writing and that no matter what I write it can be turned into something great.

3. Critical Thinker: Critical thinking is the aspect that I think I have improved on the most in this class. Looking into commercials and ads I now look for how it relates to the brain, 7 principles, 8 shifts, and persuasive techniques automatically because I just find it interesting. I look to see how well produced they really are and how they reach out to its audience.

3) What’s one thing YOU would do differently this first half of the semester if you were to take this class again?

The one thing I would do differently if I were to take this class again would be to participate more in class. I am always shy in my classes at first, but once I get used to my surroundings and people I usually feel more comfortable. I know I would get a lot more out of this class if I were to just participate more in class discussions.

4) What’s one thing you would like ME to do differently this first half of the semester if you were to take this class again?

For me personally, I would love to get more feedback on my personal blog. When I write in my personal blog any feedback I get helps me. Even when I free write I feel like tips on writing could always help me. I love getting a lot of feedback because in the future I hope to write for some form of media.

5) Please comment on the usefulness of the course blog, your personal blog, our films, and our books as learning tools.

The usefulness of my personal blog is how it has allowed me to open up more in my writing. What helps s how the blog is my own personal space that I designed. When it comes to the course blog it is useful how I always know what’s going on and what to expect in class. Books and films work together in my mind, when we read in the book; the films we watch correspond with the readings. Which helps me because I am more of a visual learner if anything.
