The Last Song - Media Meditation #4

Right now I am in the process of reading the book The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. This book is on the way to becoming a huge movie hit this upcoming March. It is featuring the singer Miley Cyrus. I have really enjoyed Miley Cyrus all that much but in this movie she looks like she is going to play the part in the movie well. Ever since I saw the preview of this new movie at the theatre when I went to go see Dear John (another Nicholas Sparks book) I have been wanting to start reading the book.

I happen to be a sucker for love and romance books. This book is about the normal a boy and girl falling in love. However the girl moves to Carolina for the summer to live with her dad who she hasn't talked to in about three years. She has a younger brother who is always trying to be apart of the girls life. But you see the girl is a normal teenager of 17, and doesn't listen to anyone other than her friends. In the end, I am sure she will become closer with her family, and with this boy, and realize the magic of the great bonds she has made with everyone in Carolina.

I am about half way through the book right now, so I cant really tell you what happens, and plus I wouldn't want to ruin it for any of my other readers of this blog. Nicholas Sparks has always been one of my favorite authors which is why I chose him to write about for my first media meditation entry for the start of March.

The Last Song is a huge media experience that I am participating in right now. By reading this book I am totally hooked in with the new media that is coming out. Seeing the preview of this movie is what started this whole media experience for me . I got hooked to this book/ film right away. I have always been one to read books before I see movies. I always believe the books are way better than the films. However I participate in both forms of media. Reading books and watching the movie.

The thing that makes this a great form of media is the different types of techniques the film uses throughout.

Humor - I know this because I laughed while watching the preview.
Beautiful People - both Miley Cyrus and the boy she falls for are attractive people.
Flattery - By the clothes the characters wear for one. Also how the attractive boys go around with no shirts on the whole preview.
Warm Fuzzies - The little brother. Is adorable and gains the attention of viewers.
Strength - Miley Cyrus figures out how to let people into her life. She gets the strength to step out of her comfort zone.

The preview for the movie I saw and also what I get from reading the book shows that it has a lot of emotional transfers and much of the film is directed towards the Limbic brain.

For anyone who loves reading romance novels I would recommend this book / movie. It got me hooked right away. I certainly cannot wait to see the film in March! If interested I bought the book for only seven dollars at Borders Bookstore!

Books and movies are two big forms of media right now. Which is why I chose to write about this subject. Our society gets entertainment from books and movies.
